In Buenos Aires, families needed incomes of at least $1,346,876 in September to not be considered poor and at least $2,128,461 to be classified as middle class, according to the Buenos Aires Institute of Statistics and Censuses (IDECBA). The cost of the consumer baskets used to determine the poverty and indigence lines in the city rose by 2.6%, which was below the inflation rate of 2.7% in December. The measurement was based on a typical family of two adults and two children, who needed an income of at least $2,128,461 for the middle class, at least $1,346,875 to not be poor, and at least $726,569 to not be classified as indigent. the Basic Food Basket (CBA), which defines the indigence line, increased by 2.63% in December, while the Total Basic Basket (CBT), which measures poverty, rose by 2.48% in the last month of 2025. Thus, the poverty line increased by 2.96% and the indigence line rose by 3.30% last month. Compared to the previous year, the poverty line was at $1,047,981 in December 2024 and increased to $1,346,876 in December of the current year.
